This week’s show – Number one social event of the year, this weekend

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Dear Friends and Family,

Aren’t we all glad when January finally comes to an end and hopefully the worst of winter is behind us? We always say once we are by the anniversary of the Blizzard, January 26, 1978, the chance of any prolonged brutal weather is slim. This Saturday, January 29th, is the number one social event of the year in Bowling Green, the Annual Chamber Meeting and Dinner Dance from the Grand Ballroom at Bowling Green State University. A Firm Foundation will set up our broadcast equipment beginning at 9:00 a.m. on AM1470 Ticket to your Community. For your convenience the show will be podcast beginning at 11:00 a.m. at 1065theticket.com. Besides guests from the Chamber, Bob Waddle, Asst. V.P. Capital Planning will join us during the heart of the show to talk about all the new buildings under construction at B.G.S.U., over $200 million in capital improvements! Wow, that’s big anywhere, but in a town the size of B.G. that’s huge!

Be sure to check our previous posts for pictures from last week’s lesson about furnace filters, you get a second chance again this week if you did not change your filter last week, see pictures. Also, still up are pictures of the orthodontic progress on Rick, two before and two where we stand 13 months later.

This week’s show – Go change your furnace filter now

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Dear Friends and Family,

Another winter Saturday in January. On the radio we have two special guests shortly after 9:00 a.m.: Dr. Pete McGowan will join us with an update on the orthodontic progress Rick is making. It’s been about 13 months using the latest technology, “Invisalign“, and the results are obvious. Pictures at the start and pictures taken last week show the obvious changes in the teeth. Also part of the process is professional whitening, and that too is obvious in the pictures.

Joining us after 10:00 a.m. will be Les Brieninger, owner of Sylvania Auto Restyling & Glass. Have you recently bought a car off the lot and it didn’t quite have every option you wanted, but you got such a good deal you couldn’t pass up? Then Sylvania Auto Restyling & Glass is your shop. Les has added to two cars we own, leather interiors, heated seats, and most recently a dimming mirror with compass and outside temperature. It’s days like today it’s nice to watch the outside temperatures for freezing road conditions.

In between these two guests we will dicuss furnance filters. Four times this season, Rick has been called out for furnance outages, and the causes are dirty filters. Even if you are renting, change the filter every 3 to 4 months. Pictured below is a filter from a rental house so dirty, the furnance would not function.

This week’s show – Pay your taxes

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Dear Friends and Family,

Real estate tax duplicates are in the mail. Due dates in Lucas County: January 31, and in Wood County: February 18th. Anita Lopez, Lucas County Auditor will join us live and in studio on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. on AM1470. For your convenience, the show will be podcast beginning at 11:00 a.m. at 1065theticket.com. It was just announced today that 2010 was another record foreclosure year across the country, so we will ask Anita to weigh in on what’s going on locally. Remember rule #1 when it comes to real estate taxes, “not receiving a bill does not excuse the tax obligation”. Also if you wish to appeal your tax values that has to be filed by March 31, 2011; that topic will be thoroughly discussed during the show.

Pocos Playhouse doggie day care facility, Bowling Green branch, is taking shape with a planned opening around April 1. If you have a pooch, then Pocos is for you. Your dog never had it so good!

Tips – Preventing Broken Water Pipes

Friday, January 7th, 2011

If you are going to be gone for an extended period of time (more than a couple of days), shut off the water in your house for precautionary sake. In case the house would freeze up, with the water shut off, NO damage from a broken pipe. In our homes, we make it easy to shut off the water.

Pictured beneath is the water meter; there is a valve on either side of the meter that will shut off the water. Just a few seconds and you don’t have to worry about a sudden cold snap, which can happen in January in Ohio or other parts of the country. This can be an important practice even if you are renting. One of our renters called me before they left for the Christmas holidays and we shut off their water while they were gone.

The reason for this picture? When they got home they didn’t know how to turn the water back on!

Shutting off water when not in use can help prevent frozen and broken pipes.
