This week’s show – Summer 2012

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

We have finally reached that milestone weekend, Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer. Everyone seemed to be hedging in March and even April that we might get a late spring blast of winter, but it didn’t happen and now we are having to water our lawns just to keep them green!

A Firm Foundation Radio show for the seventh consecutive year will be live from Central Joint Fire District fire station just south of Bowling Green, for their 7th annual Memorial Day run for charity.

On the show will be Lt. Sue Gavron, spokesperson for the department. Our primary topic will be apartment fires, we have seen a rash of them in the area. Also with us will be Sean Brennan, spokesperson for Jim Palmer Excavating. Not much snow to plow last winter, but plenty of underground work that got done with little or no frost in the ground.

The show starts at 9:00 am. on AM1470 WLQR. A podcast is available after 11:00 am. at www.1065theticket.com.

This week’s show – Boating safety, border security

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

N. W. Ohio’s most trusted hosts visit the U. S. Coast Guard facility in Toledo, for the very first time, hosted by the Toledo Sail and Power Squadron. The Coast Guard is becoming vigilant in boating safety and border security.

This area is unique in boating activities having an international border to deal with. Last year’s Ohio boating statistics showed 12 fatalities and none were wearing a PFD. Much of the discussion will focus on PFD’s. Also this year’s theme will focus on the first line of boating safety, using your brain. Last year’s late season fatality when 2 grown men went duck hunting in 50 mph winds and a driving rain.
