Had an awesome trip to Columbus on Friday and Saturday for the kick-off for the 50 year anniversary of the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir and the Tribute to Glenville Thomas coming up this August 2nd and 3rd at the 2013 Ohio State Fair. Big events are planned, including reaching the stars — Glenville’s dream of singing 1,000 strong in the Coliseum! For those of you who have never sung in this building on the Fairgrounds, this is an unbelievable feat! We are still looking for individuals who have been in ANY of the choirs since its inception back in 1962. If you know of anyone who belonged, please encourage them to check out www.aosfyc.com or on Facebook, go to 50th Reunion/Tribute to Glenville, including a list and downloads of music to be sung.
If you would like to hear any of the radio show, the first hour was with Pete Fingerhut, VP for Marketing and Sales, Columbus Zoo, discussing all the things happening with the Columbus Zoo and it being a great family destination. Don’t forget there’s a reciprocating program with the Toledo Zoo if you have a membership! Check it out.
The second hour was spent in discussion with Girrard Stewart Glenville’s right-hand man and now director of “The Voices of Ohio” – an all alumnae group of OYC folks); Mark Ferrell, President of the Alumni Association; Linda Comb, a member of the very first 1962 AOSFYC! And, of course, Rick and Jackie (OYC, 1970-71)! Podcast isn’t up yet but, hopefully, by late Monday afternoon you can hear the early-bird group’s unrehearsed rendition of “Battle Hymn of the Republic” directed by John Sullivan (left in the green shirt) and that’s Jackie in the center of the photo in the aqua top holding the microphone.
