In the ‘Bush’ and Well-Fed!

This Saturday, northwest Ohio’s most trusted hosts broadcast live from the edge of civilization via satellite phone and other technology!  Join Rick and Jackie live from the Kesagami Wilderness Lodge and their two outstanding guests, Bryson Upper and Mary Cheechoo as they share their experiences working this outstanding fly-in fishing camp for the summer — and activities with your hosts, Rick and Jackie and Jackie’s cousins, Ana and John from Romania!  Bryson hails from St. Catherine’s, Ontario and is a tournament fisherman, while Mary is of the Moose Cree Indian Nation from Moose Factory right on James Bay! Some serious topics Saturday on A Firm Foundation for Life,  based on a true story from the Vietnam Memorial where people have been leaving cremains of their relatives at the Wall against the advice of the National Park Service,  now with nearly 100 different cremains that the Park Service doesn’t know how to handle them.   Joining us in studio Dan Billings from Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory.   Besides our discussion about the proper handling of a person’s cremains,  we expect a broad discussion about cemetery lots and where one might wish to be buried?   Serious topics Saturday with expert examination by N. W. Ohio’s most trusted hosts,  sacred issues we all face in life.

Working in Paradise

The first weekend in March and where do you find the hosts of N. W. Ohio’s longest running radio talk show,  A Firm Foundation for Life?    In Naples, Florida on a tough assignment,  but somebody has to do it!   Joining Rick and Jackie,  Robert Mattson as a young man a successful political figure in Minnesota for a short time period,  then built the most successful restaurant in Naples,  a few years later,  reliving his boyhood years,   Bob purchased a remote,  (only accessible by plane),  fishing camp in Northern Ontario.   A big golf fan,  Rick first met Bob at the 1994 Masters in Augusta and the two have been friends ever since.

However,  Saturday’s program has a more serious focus,  in light of the recent severe hurricane in Florida last fall,  Bob’s mother is in a long-term care facility in Florida in need of 24 hour care and electric to run life essential medical equipment.   The question of the program,  “Is it possible to evacuate thousands of people  from long term care facilities for a natural disaster?”

Besides Bob’s insight into this issue,   N. W. Ohio’s most trusted hosts have some opinions on this topic too . . .  living in N. W. Ohio isn’t so bad after all,  never have we had to evacuate!

Where were you September 11,  2001?

This Weekend on A Firm Foundation for life,  N. W. Ohio’s most trusted hosts after several days in NYC,  broadcast live from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.   Our feature guest on the program,  Anthony Gardner,  the senior V.P. for Government and Community Affairs,  lost his older brother Harvey on that fateful day,  and after spending time and sharing with Anthony we are dedicating this weekend’s program to Harvey’s memory.   This has been an unforgettable experience for Jackie and I,   and we encourage any of you that haven’t been here to New York to make the trip sometime in the near future.

The program begins Saturday at 9:00 am.  and this Sunday for the first time,  the program will be re-broadcast at 7:00 am.,  something to tune to before church.  1370 WSPD, streamed live at:  wspd.com  or remotely with the I-Heart radio media app on your I-phone.

Last week in Arizona

Last week’s show – Car Race

This week’s show – Dead Sea scrolls and A Firm Foundation

This Saturday N. W. Ohio’s most trusted hosts return to the studio to wrap up thoughts and analysis of their recent trip to Israel. In hour #2 assuming all international connections work, Rick and Jackie welcome Costa Canavati to the program. Costa operates the Herodion Store in Bethlehem, just a few miles from Jerusalem. Costa is a lifelong resident of Bethlehem and will give us some insight into life in Israel, tourism, the Holy sites at Christmas and Easter. Most of you have heard about the Dead Sea scrolls? Discovered in 1947 the scrolls were found in caves at Qumran. There were 4 caves that scrolls were found in, but erosion has destroyed 3 of the caves, the forth is pictured in the background behind Jackie. The scrolls contained ancient writing about Jewish history dating back to 1000 BC and aligned with just about all the writings in the Old Testament, and other ancient writings, like the Ebla tablets found in Syria. All of the scrolls are now translated and can be viewed in Jerusalem at the Historical Museum.
